It works. Re-formulate your intentions and desires into goals, and your life will start changing.  Expect the following:

1. Even old wishes will get a new feel.

Going through all sorts of wishes floating in your mind is like tidying up your wardrobe. You may re-discover your forgotten dreams, as well as find out that some have worn out and faded. You will select, prioritize, think of new combinations. And when the old drifting intentions become specific goals, they will feel different: fresh, achievable and inviting.

2. You will notice new positive happenings in life.

As we more often know what we don´t want in life than what we do want, we also tend to notice more when undesired things happen. Turn it upside down. Name what you want, and you will be more likely to notice all the things that are happening towards your goals.

3. You will come across a lot of useful information and opportunities.

We are living in the age of information overload and flexibility, so all the information, contacts and possibilities that you need might be somewhere around you, but it is not so easy to spot them among all the other things. When you know your goal well, your eyes, ears and other senses will get tuned in to the relevant information. You will waste fewer chances.

4. People will be helping you towards your goals.

If we do not know ourselves what we want exactly, how can we expect others to help us get there? (We love expecting them to, don´t we). Go one step further than just knowing your goals: tell others what it is that you want, and I bet you will get more support from those around you than before!

5. Taking decisions will get easier.

The goals will give you a sense of direction. Consciously or not, your brain will confront each new option in life with your big goal, and your intuition will tell you what is on that track and what is not. If you follow it, you will take more of the decisions that can bring you closer to your goals, and fewer of those that might take you further away.

6.      You will be driven to act.

What until now felt blurry, distant, and too big to dare working on it, will get a realistic shape now – and that´s so motivating! You will know that, although the goal is big, it has parts and milestones that you can achieve, celebrating each in turn. You will recognize progress, and if something does not work out, thinking of your big goal will help you overcome it, and go on till you achieve the goal.

Goals have all the power if you make them specific and smart. Go ahead and name it!

Does it make any sense to set up personal goals, even if they might not work out or might simply change over time?

Yes, it does. It is more efficient to be active, work towards goals and, if needed, change the direction of action over time – than to remain passive and unsatisfied for years.

"Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don’t much care where--" said Alice.
"Then it doesn’t matter which way you go," said the Cat.
"--so long as I get SOMEWHERE," Alice added as an explanation.
"Oh, you’re sure to do that," said the Cat, "if you only walk long enough."
